Dine at Twentynine Palms Kitchen in the Desert

IMG_3605.jpg

Kitchen in the Desert is a new restaurant that opened up near Joshua Tree National Park’s east entrance in the city of Twentynine Palms. They serve New American and Caribbean cuisine on their expansive patio. What I love about this place is it stays true to the vibe of the desert with it’s mining equipment scattered throughout, rusted tin roof and murals. This is a great place to grab a bit if you are entering or existing through this park entrance, or if you’re staying in Twentynine Palms.

To Get There

This restaurant is located near the northeast entrance of Joshua Tree National Park in the city of Twentynine Palms.

Address: 6427 Mesquite Ave Twentynine Palms, CA

When To Go

Dinner! This restaurant is open every night for dinner and has a great nighttime ambiance. Check hours because they sometimes change. They used to have breakfast and lunch but it looks like that’s no longer the case.

The best time of year to visit Joshua Tree National Park is March-May and October-November.

On the Menu: Kitchen in the Desert

The food here is influenced by Caribbean and New American cuisine. We had a little bit of everything on the menu after a long day in the park. My favorite dishes are the fried mushrooms and the fried chicken sandwich.

The History

This restaurant was founded in 2015 by chef Everton Gordon. The property is a unique 1940’s building with a beautiful patio that has cacti, mining equipment, murals and palm trees. This property was the first hotel in Twentynine Palms, now some of the spaces are artists studios.

What I really love about this place is that it still has that rustic western desert feel to it, but the food is elevated. Don’t miss this trendy gem in the desert! Be sure to make a reservation in advance!
