Hike the Lush Rainforest overlooking the ocean on Waihe’e Ridge Trail

Waihe’e Ridge Trail on the east side of Maui boasts lush green rainforest and dramatic ocean views as you hike the steep path up the mountain.

Wear shoes with good traction to avoid sliding around on the way downhill

The hikes starts up a steep concrete path, then you enter a lush rainforest path you see below. This is filled with tall skinny trees and lush thick ferns. Most days here are pretty wet and muddy.

It’s hard to see in this photo, but you can see the Makamakaole Falls in the distance from the vantage point below. This photo doesn’t so it justice, they are quite stunning in person.

As you climb higher, the ocean comes into view, it’s a gorgeous vista seeing the vibrant green against the turquoise sea.

Keep following the ridge, it's easy to follow with a clearly marked pathway and no off shoots to other paths. The higher you climb, the greater the ocean views.

This trail is out and back, so whenever you feel like turning around you can do so and return back the way you came. The down down is more challenging because of the rainfall. Watch your footing.
