On our way from Montenegro to Kosovo we decided to stop in Albania for a nice farm-to-table experience at Mrizi i Zanave. It’s a beautiful restaurant perched high on a hill among lush trees with mountain views. Our friend Lana had been before and wanted to show us this gem with a literal farm, complete with geese, cows, chickens, and all kinds of veggies growing.

On the Menu

The multi-course dinner started with some rose-water, and from there we dove into a keto diet’s dream. Meats, cheeses, and an assortment of veggies tickled our palettes as our glasses were filled with wine.

The Restaurant

For the main course my friends had veal, while I opted for the vegetarian fresh pasta. Absolutely delish.

Desert involved pancetta, fruit, honeycomb, and ice cream. Also several more carafes of wine. If you’re reading this, you might think this would cost a fortune. Around six courses or more of quality farm-to-table food and LOTS of wine. It cost an equivalent of $16 US pp (2019).

The Farm

After our late lunch, we wandered the farm to pet the donkeys, see the geese, and fun tractor train. It truly is a farm to table experience.

It was a memorable experience in Albania. Don’t disregard the Balkins when planning your European adventure. From what we saw in our week journey, it’s a pretty wonderful place!
