Camp on one of California's most pristine beach locations, Point Mugu

Point Mugu Thornhill Broome is a beautiful beachside campground located on the Pacific Coast highway in Malibu. There are a lot of coastal campgrounds, but not many are right on the water like the ones located here. It’s so amazing to go to sleep with the sounds of waves lapping, and wake up to the site of the glistening ocean and dolphins riding the shoreline waves

To Get There

Drive along the gorgeous Pacific Coast Highway to Thornhill Broome Campground

This is prime real estate for camping, so prime you need to book it as soon as it becomes available 6 month in advance. It’s a little complicated to book so I’ve outlined it here.

  1. Book at Reserve California

  2. Type in Malibu as the city and the your start date

  3. Click on Point Mugu SP

  4. Choose Thornhill Broome Campground (if available)

  5. Book a campsite

When To Go

You can get away with going here year round since it’s Southern California weather. That being said, if you want to soak in the sun I’d recommend going July- September.

Camping on the Beach

These sites have a spot for camp fires and each have their own picnic bench on the sand with the waves at your front door.

Bring a towel, a good book, some games, and just relax and unwind. Make sure you bring all the food you need and fire wood, the nearest grocery store is about 40min away.

Whether you’re visiting, or a Los Angeles native, this is an amazing experience discovering the Pacific Ocean free from noise and chaos.

Additional Tips

Tired on making food, jump in your car and drive to Neptune’s Net, a casual seafood restaurant that had been around since 1958.
