Float through the Mangroves of Sian Ka'an on this Lazy River Adventure

Sian Ka'an is a biosphere reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site located near Tulum, Mexico. The Lazy River Adventure is a relaxing tour that starts with a boat ride through two fresh water lagoons which connect to an ancient Mayan canal. It's a peaceful and serene day trip you can take from Tulum or Riviera Maya.

Tour Options to Sian Ka’an

There are several tours to choose from. For a full of day adventuring from Tulum, book the Sian Kaan Boat Trip Adventure with Lunch (10 hours). This tour takes you exploring in this UNESCO Natural Reserve, beautiful beaches, and eating a delicious Caribbean lunch.

Here are some more options below from Get Your Guide.

Driving to the site, there are a small ruins hidden beneath the crawling jungle vines that you can spot throughout this ecological preserve. We arrived at the dock on the waters edge and stepped into a small speed boat to zip across the ocean, the wind flowing though our hair. Once in the mangroves, the boat slowed down to a peaceful pace.

Approximately 1000 years ago, the Mayans had actually cut this channel right through the lagoons. After a mile or so, you’ll arrive a small wooden dock. We climbed on top, and we were instructed to put our life vests on like diapers for the float. We lowered into the aqua-colored refreshing cool water as tiny minnows swam in circles below. The current gently carries everyone through the channel and towards the Caribbean Sea. The water is clear and beautiful, and the canal is lined with massive air plants that nest themselves among the maritime trees.

Tip: Make sure to apply sunscreen early and not right before you get into the water so it stays on your body and doesn’t pollute the water

About the Region

This area is a protected region of the Yucatan. Sian Ka'an means 'Origin of the Sky' to ancient Mayans who once lived in this region. This biosphere reserve contains tropical forests, mangroves and marshes, as well as a large marine section intersected by a barrier reef. It is comprised more than 300 species of birds, rich plant life, and a large number of the region's land dwellers, which cohabit in the diverse environment formed by its complex hydrological system. If you’re a nature enthusiast this is a wonderful way to spend the day exploring.
