3 days on the Amalfi Coast

Last summer Adam and I had a blast in Croatia. This year, we decided to explore more of the Mediterranean scrub and visiting the Amalfi Coast followed by some Greek Islands. The Amalfi Coast is a picturesque coastline with steep cliffs. This would've been an amazing trip exploring Amalfi if they weren't having a heat wave while we were there. It was incredibly hot and humid so we ended up stopping a lot to take a dip in the ocean.

Stay at a B&B in Positano

We stayed in Positano at a cute little Italian bed and breakfast halfway up the hill. Positano is an old city with narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafes. You couldn't even get to our hotel by car, only by foot up or down an old concrete staircase. We definitely got a workout in while we were there.

Positano: Sun bathe on Spiaggia del Fornillo & Spiaggia Grande

We were closer to Spiaggia del Fornillo, the smaller beach, it's less crowded and more beautiful than Spiaggia Grande, the main beach closer to town. It's lined with restaurants you can grab a bite or a beer at in between swimming and tanning. You might want to bring some water shoes, the beaches are really rocky.

If you’re in good shape, everything is pretty easy to walk to in Positano. It’s also a great way to explore the city to see the cobblestone streets and ocean views.

Positano: Dine at Ristorante Max

We went to Ristorante Max on our first night, a romantic upscale restaurant with a beautiful garden courtyard to dine in.

Positano: Party at Music on the Rocks

After dinner, we went to Music on the Rocks, a club in a cave on the beach. It was pretty dead until late night. If you are there before 12:30am you'll be there alone. We had a blast once it got going, but for a while it was crickets.

Praiano: Join the Beach Party at One Fire Beach

We stumbled across this One Fire Beach Club while exploring the coastline. You have to walk down a very long stairway to get here from the main road, or take a boat ferry from one of the other beaches. This gem is nestled along the coastline with its bright orange umbrellas overlooking the bright blue sea. It’s a great place to spend the day relaxing in the sunshine, swimming, drinking and making new friends.

Take a Boat Tour to the Island of Capri

Capri is a nice island, with the bluest water and rocky landscape. I was much more impressed by mainland Amalfi, and that’s probably because Capri is overrun with tourists and touristy shops and restaurants. If you are short on time I’d skip it. If you do go take a boat ride, it’s a great way to see the island. The water is a beautiful shade of blue and the cliff sides are breathtaking.

The Amalfi Coast is gorgeous and there is so much to explore, I can’t wait to return someday when the weather is a little cooler!
