It’s winter in California! And while this doesn’t mean we need to break out the heavy coats, it does mean it’s sweater weather!

The city itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and you get the sense they’ve spent a great deal of effort renovating these buildings. It was mostly built in the 18th century from limestone, so as you walk down the cobblestone streets it feels like you’ve stepped back in time. In this post, I’ll give you some ideas for what to do if you have 2-3 days to explore Bordeaux.

49 Palms Oasis is a nice moderate short hike to a secluded palm oasis (you guessed it). The palm trees are clustered near an out of place spring of water in the middle of the arid desert.

Key's View is the best drive-up vista in Joshua Tree National Park. From the top you can see the Coachella Valley and the San Andreas Fault. You can also catch a view of Southern California's two highest mountains, Mount San Jacinto and Mount Gorgonio. On a clear day you can see California's largest lake, the Salton Sea.

Just over two hours from Los Angeles, there is little desert city called Pioneertown near Joshua Tree National Park. This expansive western set looks frozen in the old western days of dust and tumbleweeds. You can wander, shop, eat barbecue, and sometimes watch live music in this quirky little town.
