Paradise Falls Trail leads you to a 40-foot waterfall located in Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks, a close drive from Los Angeles. This amazing hiking region boasts lush greenery, cactus , large oak trees, a modern teepee, and an Indian Cave. It’s definitely a must-see hike if you live in the area, especially after a good amount of rain.

When To Go

Los Angeles temperate weather means you can do this hike year round, but the waterfall can potentially be nothing but a trickle in the summer months. The best time to go in my opinion is after some good rain. We did this hike at the beginning of March and it was great. The end of March or April could potentially be even better because all the spring flowers will be in bloom.

The trailhead is easily accessible from the parking lot and starts with a flat, wide path. We did this hike in March 2023 during the height of rain in Southern California, it really brought this trail to life.

Follow the signs to the falls and enjoy the views along the way.

There’s a large teepee along the hike with some cement benches on the interior. You can find some shade here before turning right to hike down to Paradise Falls.

As you near the end of the trail, you'll hear the sound of water flowing and soon catch sight of the magnificent Paradise Falls. This 40-foot waterfall cascades down a rocky cliff, surrounded by lush greenery and trees. It's truly a sight to behold and makes for a perfect photo opportunity.

Note: If there hasn’t been much rain these falls can be a trickle.

Once you reach Paradise Falls, you will find a small pool of water at the base of the waterfall where visitors can dip their feet in the water or take a refreshing swim (might be cold though). There are also picnic tables and benches in the area where you can relax and enjoy a picnic.

If you continue walking the loop you’ll get a great view of the falls from above.

Eventually you’ll find yourself back at the teepee. Instead of turning left to go back to the parking lot, go straight to explore the Indian Cave. I tried to find more info on this cave, but found nothing. Regardless, it’s a fun cave to explore. You can wander inside and all the way through.

Continue on the path after that will take you on a different route back to the parking lot. If you’re lucky, you’ll see some beautiful Spring flowers.

Overall, the hike to Paradise Falls is a must-do for nature lovers and hikers of all skill levels. The trail is well-maintained and offers stunning views of the surrounding hillsides and valleys. Just be sure to bring plenty of water and wear sturdy hiking shoes, as the terrain can be a bit challenging in places.
