Go Off-roading in Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park is filled with spectacular vistas and all types of outdoor adventures. If you’re looking for a fun adrenaline rush racing through the park in the open air, rent a UTV from Glacier Ridge Runners to do some off-roading through the tall tree-lined pathways.

Note: Personal UTVs are not allowed in this National Park

Getting there.

Glacier Ridge Runners is on the west edge of Glacier National Park close to Whitefish. You’ll need a car to get here, and you can park in their parking lot for free while you’re off-roading.

Location: 249 Flathead Road Hungry Horse, Montana 59919

Off-Roading Trails

There are a few routes to choose from depending on the weather and timing. The staff will walk you through the routes and give you a map. This is a self guided rental without a guide. We took the Desert Mountain Loop Trail, cruising at high speeds high above the tree line in the wet mist of June. The trail takes about 2 hours to complete, going up, up into the thick pine trees.

Tip: Study the map before you head out so you don’t have to stop as much along the way

The route was incredible, but terrifying when I wasn't driving because there’s a cliff edge as you climb the mountain. If you’re like me, and you like to be in charge of your own fate, rent your own car instead of sharing one. Also be sure to wear helmets. It’s optional, but after seeing the cliff edges its definitely optimal. It's an incredible journey, and very exhilarating if you're an adrenaline junkie like me! Unfortunately for us it was a very misty day so we didn’t get the views fro the top of the mountain. Hoping you’ll be luckier than us!

Just For Fun Park Tees

These tees are unnecessary for hiking, but it’s always fun to get a tank or tee with the National Park name on it for photos. I found these Tees on Etsy.
