Explore Robber's Roost Ghost Town

Robber's Roost is a small “ghost town” in eastern Kern County that was once a hotel for passing travelers along highway 395 in California. Then owners made it kitchy by adding some things like a jailhouse and a saloon. Now it feels like an old western set. I read that you can buy their famous “frog balls” inside the store, which are actually pickled brussell sprouts. We would’ve loved to try them, but the store was closed, so we just wandered and took photos.

To Get There

Warning: this is a very unkept ghost town so who knows what garbage and creatures are lying around.

When To Go

The best time to visit is in the Fall or Spring.

The “Ghost Town”

There are several abandoned buildings here made to look like an old western set, but they are all pretty dilapidated.

The saloon was my favorite, with an old piano and a bar that looks like it was abandoned mid party. See the image below with glasses and bottles.

An old “fone booth” makes for a great prop, but you can’t make any calls from here.

There are several buildings that are just desolate and falling apart. It truly has ghost town vibes, like something that has been abandoned long ago.

You can also rob a bank and get locked up all in one place at this “bank jail.” lol.

This makes for a fun stop if your driving on the 395 to get out, stretch your legs, and grab a snack (if the convenience store is open). Do you know of any quirky stops along the 395 or in California? Leave them in the comments below.
